The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Kyren Lacy slide 40 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In slot 12 they get a three-down runner, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 20
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at the 44th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 67
The board had Deone Walker higher than pick 76, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Hollin Pierce · OT · rank 118
Hollin Pierce at No. 150 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 137
They robbed the room for Jay Higgins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Dillon Gabriel · QB · rank 133
Steal is underselling it; Dillon Gabriel at Round 5, Pick 33 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Kyren Lacy · WR · rank 134
Taking Kyren Lacy in pick No. 174 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
