For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Chiefs walked out of the weekend still thin at tight end, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
The cost of the Jefferson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Matt Goncalves at the 95th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at No. 133, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Jaylen Wright in pick No. 158, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A conviction pick on Jordan Jefferson at the 172nd overall pick that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Christian Jones at slot 210 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jeremy Flax in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
