The Packers went off the board in a big way for Dwight McGlothern, 40 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Turner pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had cheaper options than Edgerrin Cooper at the 41st pick, and it noticed. A minor itch, scratched.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Bullard. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Cooper Beebe slipping to pick No. 88 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Bucky Irving at the 91st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jaylen Wright at slot 125 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Cam Hart at par in pick No. 135, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for J.J. Weaver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Dwight McGlothern at the 217th pick, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Demani Richardson at No. 219 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Value said wait; Evan Williams in slot 246 says they were not listening. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
