The Bears went off the board in a big way for Brian Ugwu, 167 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Getting Skattebo where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a downhill hitter at safety, outstanding value to boot.
Good price on Tyler Booker in the 44th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tate Ratledge in the 61st pick. It fills a real need, too.
Gunnar Helm in pick 72 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Cam Skattebo at pick No. 193 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Jared Wilson still on the board at Round 7, Pick 17. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Brian Ugwu in Round 7, Pick 24 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
