The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Lions reached some 36 spots for Mikail Kamara, and value like that does not grow back.
The Wright value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Olaivavega Ioane at the 18th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Anthony Hill Jr., who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Germie Bernard was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 18, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Mikail Kamara, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in No. 128, with Tacario Davis worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Beau Stephens at pick 157 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Louis Moore in Round 5, Pick 23; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Domani Jackson in pick No. 181 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on VJ Payne at slot 196, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 205th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Dae'Quan Wright all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kaelon Black in the 222nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
