Thirty-one other rooms let Kamal Hadden slide, and the Lions were the ones holding the card at slot 167. Highway robbery.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Sainristil reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They read the board right and J.J. McCarthy was the payoff at pick No. 62. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Mike Sainristil in the 73rd overall pick, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value with a capital V on Roman Wilson in the 93rd pick, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Tykee Smith in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kamal Hadden in slot 167 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in No. 208, where Kimani Vidal graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Zion Logue in pick 251 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
