Somebody in pick No. 223 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Tahj Washington, the No. 192 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A mixed bag that lands at C-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Hit on Malik Nabers and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Ja'Tavion Sanders at Round 2, Pick 5, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Chris Braswell is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in the 69th overall pick with a little surplus value in Zach Frazier. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DJ James. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
MarShawn Lloyd at pick 106 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 183 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Tahj Washington all the way to No. 223, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; KT Leveston at Round 7, Pick 36 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
