The Cowboys did not so much draft C.J. Hanson as overpay for him, 59 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
If Dominick Puni and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
Dominick Puni at the 87th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nick Gargiulo in No. 173 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take C.J. Hanson this early at pick 216. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
KT Leveston in Round 7, Pick 13 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kingsley Eguakun. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
