Somebody in pick 68 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Kamari Lassiter, the No. 40 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Eichenberg pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at wide receiver, tight end and other spots.
The Braswell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jared Verse slid further than he should have, and pick 36 is lovely value for the edge rusher. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Chris Braswell in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in Round 2, Pick 8 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They will replay Kamari Lassiter at slot 68 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Christian Haynes in pick No. 100. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A curious use of No. 104. Wide receiver, tight end and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Tommy Eichenberg did not.
