The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: A.J. Haulcy, the No. 49 name on the board, in pick 109. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Durant reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Arvell Reese went about where he belonged in the 9th pick. It fills a real need, too.
In pick No. 29 they get a security blanket over the middle, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nice patience on Chris Brazzell II, who had no business lasting to the 40th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Caleb Banks reach Round 3, Pick 10 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled A.J. Haulcy all the way to No. 109, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They did well to land Chris McClellan in pick 148, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A reach for Zane Durant in slot 169; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach on Josh Cameron in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
