The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for J.J. Weaver, 172 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
On value alone, Gordon II makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
Omarion Hampton in the 44th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wild overpay on Tez Johnson in slot 76, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at No. 148 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 168 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for J.J. Weaver at the 170th pick, and the board is aghast. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They reached into another round for Jaylen Reed, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Elijah Arroyo went about where he belonged in No. 186. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Tonka Hemingway in Round 6, Pick 34 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ollie Gordon II in the 248th pick, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
