The phones were a trap the Commanders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
They will need Ratledge to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. However the rest shakes out, Horton at that price is a win they earned. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 15th pick they get a problem off the edge. A real need, handled.
Quinshon Judkins slipping to No. 34 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tate Ratledge. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Luke Lachey at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Blake Miller went about where he belonged in pick 68. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Tory Horton at Round 3, Pick 15 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dillon Gabriel in slot 98 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jahdae Barron in slot 111 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Gentry Williams at the 130th pick is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 2 with a little surplus value in T.J. Sanders. It fills a real need, too.
Steve Linton in pick No. 183 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
