Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent Round 4, Pick 25 on Jaylen Wright, a name the board had a full 33 spots lower. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Laumea at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Kamren Kinchens went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Edgerrin Cooper at No. 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Darius Robinson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Bucky Irving at par in the 92nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylen Wright at the 125th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Sataoa Laumea at pick No. 135 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Javon Baker at No. 166 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Jaylen Harrell in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy bit of business in pick 217, where Omar Speights graded well above the range. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They reached a country mile for Demani Richardson at Round 6, Pick 44, and the board is aghast. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Dwight McGlothern in slot 246 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
