If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chargers would have aced it. Trevor Keegan at the Round 5 slot is 23 spots clear of where he belonged. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Antoine Winfield Jr. pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Hit on Jackson Powers-Johnson and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick 26 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They liked T'Vondre Sweat enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 5. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Brandon Dorlus in slot 69 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zak Zinter at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Trevor Keegan in pick No. 139 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
A conviction pick on Jaylan Ford at the 183rd pick that the board grades a round light. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kimani Vidal in No. 223 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Bub Means at Round 7, Pick 36 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
