Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Lathan Ransom got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at the Round 5 slot.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Denzel Burke at the 61st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 15, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A safety of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They barely believed it either: Jordan Hancock still on the board at pick 203. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Steal is underselling it; Seth McLaughlin at slot 236 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Shilo Sanders is a better player than pick No. 247 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
