When the story of this class is written, it opens with Spencer Rattler at the 78th pick, a reach of 40 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They banked enough surplus on Fautanu to cover a lot of smaller sins.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A real need, handled.
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Troy Fautanu in slot 36. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Graham Barton come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 8. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Payton Wilson slipping to the 67th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Spencer Rattler well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Johnny Wilson this early at pick No. 100. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Cam Hart, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Roger Rosengarten in No. 139 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Kitan Oladapo in Round 5, Pick 16, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A big swing on Sam Hartman at pick 222, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
