Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Chiefs came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
If Pavia pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That Harris pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Adding Jordan Mason by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
In the 29th overall pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
They did well to land Dillon Thieneman in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Emmanuel Pregnon slipping to pick 49 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 74, where Keionte Scott graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They read the board right and Malik Muhammad was the payoff at No. 109. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ja'Kobi Lane at the 112th pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jack Endries in slot 118 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Max Llewellyn at the 128th overall pick, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Kaytron Allen at No. 148, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Beau Stephens in slot 152 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Demond Claiborne at pick No. 163 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Zxavian Harris, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Aaron Graves in the 176th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Jeff Caldwell at par in pick 181, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Diego Pavia at Round 6, Pick 29 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
