The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Getting Burks where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting McClellan proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value.
A straight-up fair deal on Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at Round 2, Pick 12, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josiah Trotter. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Mike Washington Jr. went about where he belonged in the 70th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Logan Jones at the 89th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 106 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had cheaper options than Chris McClellan at pick No. 129, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Skyler Gill-Howard in the 146th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dametrious Crownover at slot 149 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
