The Chiefs treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 5 slot on Logan Lee a full 38 spots early.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Washington. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Chris Godwin gives the group a proven body among the projects.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Guyton at the 39th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Bucky Irving at the 89th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Andru Phillips in No. 95; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A real head-scratcher, Jalyx Hunt in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They went early on Sione Vaki in slot 150, and the value did not follow. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They read the board right and Brennan Jackson was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 30. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A wild overpay on Logan Lee in pick No. 173, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Gabe Hall at pick 199 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tahj Washington in slot 219 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
