Boards are made to be trusted, and the Patriots shredded theirs for Kingsley Eguakun. He came off 100 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. It is not that Stover is a bad player; it is that the Patriots had louder needs to answer first. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Keon Coleman at slot 22 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at the 34th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose TE-EDGE. Cade Stover in pick 69 leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
A reach for Blake Corum in Round 3, Pick 8; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cam Hart at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at No. 136. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached a country mile for Brandon Coleman at pick No. 139, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Kingsley Eguakun at slot 182 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Jawhar Jordan in the 229th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Jalen Coker at par in the 256th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
