You build a draft on nights like this. Tyrice Knight had no business being available in the 252nd pick, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They will need Coker to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get protection for the quarterback, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy little value on Troy Franklin in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Cam Hart come to them and pounced at No. 103. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid sticker price for Ben Sinnott in Round 4, Pick 31, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Grayson Murphy in the 158th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They liked Tahj Washington enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 180. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dillon Johnson is a better player than pick No. 185 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen Coker this early at the 226th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Tyrice Knight at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, C.J. Hanson in pick No. 253 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
