The Emery Jones Jr. pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 94 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Landing Gordon II that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, with Will Campbell leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Will Campbell at par in slot 12, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
A safety of that caliber at the 40th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Fair-plus on Mykel Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Jack Sawyer in the 51st overall pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Deone Walker in Round 3, Pick 7 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Colston Loveland at pick No. 81 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Danny Stutsman enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 83. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Emery Jones Jr. in pick 93 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Jack Bech at pick No. 117 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the 118th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Mason Taylor in the 142nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
