The trade table was a mismatch, and the Chiefs were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
Hanson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In the end it comes back to Troy Franklin, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in the 33rd overall pick with a little surplus value in Troy Franklin. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 32, where DJ James graded well above the range. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ben Sinnott in pick 131 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jalyx Hunt at the 158th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
C.J. Hanson at No. 252 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
