The Chiefs clearly saw something nobody else did in Lideatrick Griffin, taking him 37 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. However the rest shakes out, Jones at that price is a win they earned. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They did well to land Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 64, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Cooper Beebe at pick 95 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Josh Newton in No. 117, and the value did not follow. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jarrian Jones at slot 172 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They paid sticker price for Khristian Boyd in Round 6, Pick 6, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at pick 221 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tanner McLachlan in Round 7, Pick 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Rasheen Ali at the 242nd overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, Lideatrick Griffin in the 252nd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
