Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent the Round 4 slot on Tyler Onyedim, a name most had 139 spots down the list.
The Slaughter pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in pick No. 75 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jake Slaughter in pick 87 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Logan Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Max Klare here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tyler Onyedim well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
