The Cowboys spent real capital to be 206 picks early on Gerry Bohanon, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Landing Brooks that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Emeka Egbuka in No. 22, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A running back of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 12 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nick Emmanwori at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They talked themselves into Ajani Cornelius at pick No. 76, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Alfred Collins at the 81st pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, TreVeyon Henderson in the 84th overall pick, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Deontae Lawson at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dylan Fairchild at No. 88 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They jumped the gun on Savion Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.

They will replay Oronde Gadsden II at pick 168 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 170 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
