The Jets did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Drew Allar fell into slot 179. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The veteran additions, Troy Franklin chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get a bell-cow for the offense at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In slot 16 they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot.
Peter Woods at the 33rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They did well to land Bryce Lance in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Drew Allar here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Toriano Pride Jr. higher than pick 228, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Latrell McCutchin Sr. at the 242nd overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
