Somebody in No. 100 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Broncos sat still while A.J. Haulcy, the No. 50 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C.
Reaching for Zvada left real value on the table behind him. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Jacob Rodriguez come to them and pounced at pick 62. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Max Klare at the 79th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Keylan Rutledge higher than the 87th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Skyler Bell slid further than he should have, and pick 94 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A safety of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nothing to complain about; Emmett Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
They took Oscar Delp at par in No. 127, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Chris McClellan in the 147th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Keagen Trost in pick No. 180 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Thaddeus Dixon in Round 7, Pick 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Luke Altmyer in pick 256 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dominic Zvada at the 257th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
