Thirty-one other rooms let Edefuan Ulofoshio slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at No. 219. Highway robbery.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board. The McGlothern pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kamren Kinchens at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 25. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They let Christian Haynes come to them and pounced at No. 88. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Braden Fiske in pick 91. It fills a real need, too.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent slot 125 on Tykee Smith, a safety they were not short of.
Will Shipley at the 135th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Jaylen Wright in pick No. 203 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; LaDarius Henderson at Round 6, Pick 42 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Edefuan Ulofoshio at No. 219 is a fall that decides a draft. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Dwight McGlothern in the 246th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
