When a board-topper like Jaylen Wright slides to pick 203, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The cost of the Cooper reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A conviction pick on Edgerrin Cooper at the 41st pick that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Devontez Walker at slot 57 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Christian Haynes graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Bucky Irving at pick 91 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Darius Robinson in Round 4, Pick 25, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Malik Mustapha in No. 135 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A running back of that caliber at the 203rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Roger Rosengarten all the way to No. 217, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Curtis Jacobs in pick 219 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Demani Richardson at slot 246 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
