The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Kris Jenkins, the No. 49 name on the board, sitting there at the 88th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
Reaching for Williams left real value on the table behind him. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Jordan Morgan in Round 2, Pick 9 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Javon Bullard went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Kris Jenkins in pick 88 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on MarShawn Lloyd at the 91st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trevin Wallace this early at the 126th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid up for Ty'Ron Hopper at No. 169 when waiting would have done the job. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Evan Williams at pick No. 202 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A conviction pick on Trey Taylor at the 219th pick that the board grades a round light. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A slide stopped in pick 245, with Jacob Monk worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; KT Leveston at pick No. 255 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
