The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Myles Harden, the No. 168 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Carlies has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Wallace pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Jordan Morgan at the 41st pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Junior Colson at the 58th overall pick is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Trevin Wallace, a linebacker they were not short of.
MarShawn Lloyd at pick No. 91 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Kitan Oladapo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Evan Williams at No. 169 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Jaylon Carlies at pick 202 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
The board had cheaper options than Jacob Monk at slot 219, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 245 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tylan Grable at pick No. 255 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
