Somebody in pick 217 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Edefuan Ulofoshio, the No. 156 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They are betting Richardson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Steal is underselling it; Cooper DeJean at pick 41 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Troy Franklin in slot 57 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Sedrick Van Pran at the 88th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
McKinnley Jackson at No. 91 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Darius Robinson at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cedric Gray. It adds depth where they could use a little.
You do not let a running back like Jaylen Wright reach Round 6, Pick 28 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Edefuan Ulofoshio here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Demani Richardson in No. 219, miles early. A minor itch, scratched.
They jumped the gun on Dwight McGlothern, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
