Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Decamerion Richardson got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 255. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Wallace pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board. The Williams pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a long-term starter on the line, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st overall pick, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Javon Bullard at Round 2, Pick 26 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
MarShawn Lloyd at pick 88 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Roger Rosengarten in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A curious use of No. 126. Edge rusher, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Trevin Wallace did not.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Hunter Nourzad reach pick No. 169 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Evan Williams at slot 202, and the board is aghast. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
KT Leveston at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 25, with Jacob Monk worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 255 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
