The Jaylen Wright selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 37 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Landing Rice that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
A reach for Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No drama and no debate, Javon Bullard went about where he belonged in the 57th overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Brenden Rice in pick 88 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Jaden Hicks while clear needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat open.
A wild overpay on Jaylen Wright in No. 126, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Isaiah Davis in Round 5, Pick 32, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Christian Jones in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Daequan Hardy in slot 216 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Sheridan Jones was the payoff at the 243rd pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nathaniel Watson at No. 251 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
