Thirty-one other rooms let Troy Franklin slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at pick 88. Highway robbery. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Hicks to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 41 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Kris Jenkins at slot 57 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Troy Franklin in Round 3, Pick 25, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Jaden Hicks at the 91st overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Will Shipley at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Sione Vaki at pick 168 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Nice patience on Isaiah Davis, who had no business lasting to the 203rd pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Christian Jones graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Darius Muasau in the 243rd pick, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nathaniel Watson at slot 251 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
