The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 246 on John Emery Jr. a full 97 spots early. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. On value alone, DeJean makes the weekend a net positive. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Calen Bullock at Round 2, Pick 9, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in No. 57, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Sedrick Van Pran in pick No. 88 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Fair-plus on McKinnley Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Jaylen Wright in slot 125 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Luke McCaffrey at slot 135 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Christian Jones at the 203rd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
They went early on J.J. Weaver in pick 217, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Xavier Thomas in No. 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on John Emery Jr. at Round 7, Pick 26, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
