The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Luke Lachey fell into pick No. 240. They executed a plan and it shows in the A.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a wrecking ball inside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Josh Conerly Jr. at slot 38 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A quiet steal in the 58th overall pick: JT Tuimoloau for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Xavier Watts in No. 69, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Aireontae Ersery all the way to pick No. 77, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Malachi Moore at Round 4, Pick 4 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Cam Skattebo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 219 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
You do not let a running back like Woody Marks reach pick 222 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Luke Lachey in Round 7, Pick 22 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
