The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Tavion Sanders. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Patrick Paul at No. 53 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ja'Lynn Polk a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Sedrick Van Pran enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 3, Pick 5. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Khyree Jackson in the 73rd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Christian Mahogany at pick 87 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ainias Smith at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid a round early for Kitan Oladapo in the 145th overall pick, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 229, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
