It is the swing that defines the weekend: Maurice Smith in Round 6, Pick 42, a good 80 spots before the room expected him. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Turner. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Xavier Legette in pick 19, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Dallas Turner at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and T.J. Tampa was the payoff at the 51st pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on TreVeyon Henderson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Mahogany at slot 88 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Junior Colson at par in No. 119, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Fair-plus on James Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They reached a country mile for Marques Cox at Round 6, Pick 22, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value said wait; Maurice Smith in pick No. 217 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Curtis Jacobs come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Rasheen Ali this early at the 240th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
