Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. J. Michael Sturdivant, the No. 159 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 6 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Olumuyiwa Fashanu in pick 9 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
They read the board right and Edgerrin Cooper was the payoff at the 41st pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nice patience on T'Vondre Sweat, who had no business lasting to slot 43. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Javon Foster at Round 3, Pick 9 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kamren Kinchens slipping to pick No. 82 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Max Melton at the 109th overall pick is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Khyree Jackson in No. 135, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a wide receiver like J. Michael Sturdivant reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Bru McCoy at Round 6, Pick 42 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
They took Jalen Catalon at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They let Bryson Nesbit come to them and pounced at pick 230. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
