Green Bay Packers

The Packers let Sturdivant fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. J. Michael Sturdivant, the No. 159 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 6 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 11
Olumuyiwa Fashanu in pick 9 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 32
They read the board right and Edgerrin Cooper was the payoff at the 41st pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 30
Nice patience on T'Vondre Sweat, who had no business lasting to slot 43. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 49
Circle this one: Javon Foster at Round 3, Pick 9 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 65
Kamren Kinchens slipping to pick No. 82 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Max Melton · CB · rank 100
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Max Melton at the 109th overall pick is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 122
Value with a capital V on Khyree Jackson in No. 135, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · J. Michael Sturdivant · WR · rank 159
You do not let a wide receiver like J. Michael Sturdivant reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Bru McCoy · WR · rank 191
Bru McCoy at Round 6, Pick 42 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jalen Catalon · S · rank 223
They took Jalen Catalon at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Bryson Nesbit · TE · rank 219
They let Bryson Nesbit come to them and pounced at pick 230. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
