You could see the war room lean forward. Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 72 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Murphy has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malik Nabers. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Troy Fautanu in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
T.J. Tampa at No. 47 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a wide receiver like Brian Thomas Jr. reach pick No. 72 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at the 75th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No edge and no loss on Audric Estime in pick 90; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Grayson Murphy in slot 142, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Roger Rosengarten in Round 6, Pick 14 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Sheridan Jones slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
