The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Charles Grant, the No. 94 name on the board, in the 150th pick. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Omarion Hampton at slot 44 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Deone Walker at pick No. 76 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Charles Grant in Round 5, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Bhayshul Tuten in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Billy Bowman Jr. at the 172nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A straight-up fair deal on Cobee Bryant at No. 174, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
