This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Amarius Mims, the No. 23 name on the board, stolen at No. 53. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy little value on Edgerrin Cooper in slot 50, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They barely believed it either: Amarius Mims still on the board at No. 53. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jonah Elliss in pick 97. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kitan Oladapo at the 160th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It fills a real need, too.
Kamal Hadden in the 170th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Anthony Gould. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 178 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jha'Quan Jackson at Round 6, Pick 14 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trevin Wallace in slot 240. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
