After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
On value alone, Barner makes the weekend a net positive. They are betting Milton III proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. With running back and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick 23 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Amarius Mims at Round 2, Pick 4 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Nate Wiggins at pick No. 40 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Edgerrin Cooper in the 67th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bralen Trice in the 78th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Christian Mahogany at No. 100 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nice patience on Brenden Rice, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A curious use of the 129th overall pick. Running back and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a linebacker in Tommy Eichenberg did not.
A tidy little value on Christian Jones in the 139th pick, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Joe Milton III in Round 5, Pick 16 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; AJ Barner at pick 222 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
