The Sedrick Van Pran selection is the head-turner. The Commanders reached 49 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Moore makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
Chop Robinson at pick 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quinyon Mitchell in the 39th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach for Patrick Paul in pick No. 40; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 2 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 17 when waiting would have done the job. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They let Ja'Lynn Polk come to them and pounced at slot 67. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach on Cooper Beebe in No. 70; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Audric Estime in pick No. 100 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Rod Moore at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor itch, scratched.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ben Sinnott well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, James Williams in the 141st overall pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Value with a capital V on Jasheen Davis in Round 6, Pick 6, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
