The Giants spent the pick that matters most on Michael Penix Jr., and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Horton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 5 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J.J. McCarthy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 54 with a little surplus value in Javon Foster. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Ja'Lynn Polk went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tory Horton at pick 105 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
