Somebody in pick No. 216 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Tahj Washington, the No. 188 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Gray has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Zach Frazier went about where he belonged in slot 56. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Cedric Gray in pick No. 87, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tykee Smith at the Round 5 slot is the proof. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow Tahj Washington was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 41, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Myles Harden at the 233rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jalen Sundell at pick 244 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
