The board owed the Chargers one, and it paid up: Josh Proctor, the No. 215 name on the board, sitting there at the 256th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The cost of the Davis reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 9th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick No. 37 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid a round early for Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 5, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Tyler Davis at pick 106 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Kendall Milton in No. 183; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Jaylan Ford all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Circle this one: Josh Proctor at slot 256 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
