The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tre Harris, the No. 192 name on the board, in pick 252.
They will need Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The Thomas Booker IV deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, outstanding value to boot.
A slide stopped in pick No. 63, with Brandon Dorlus worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Dominick Puni at par in the 97th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Khyree Jackson at Round 4, Pick 31 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They liked Devin Neal enough to skip the value, taking him in the 163rd overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Kamal Hadden in No. 171, and that is fine. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Jordan Burch at pick 172 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Miles Frazier at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value said wait; Theo Johnson in No. 209 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 252 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
